REVISITING AND REFLECTING ON ACADEMIC RESEARCH IN THE AREA OF GEOGRAPHIC EDUCATION IN BRAZIL

Abstract

This article aims to develop reflection on the academic production related to the Geographic Education area in Brazil. The text presents questions about this field of research in order to provoke debate for future discussions between geography researchers and its teaching. For this reflection, I organize the text in two parts: in the first one, I revisit my research on teaching, raising some aspects for further analysis, starting from the doctoral thesis, entitled: “Trajectory of academic research on the teaching of geography in Brazil - 1972-2000”, defended in 2003, to the most recent work carried out in 2017, entitled: “Ten years of Academic Research in Geographic Education in the Graduate Program of the Federal University of Paraíba - 2007-2017”. In the second part, I dedicate myself to questions about the advances of this research area, making them through challenge to think about teaching, its relations within geography and its specificities with Education. In general, this reflection points out the need to think about articulation strategies between the research carried out in the Geographic Education with the specific areas of geography.
