Resumo

ABSTRACT
I present the classroom practice - with drawings and short texts - of the geography discipline elaborated by students of the 7th year of elementary school in a public school of Belém do Pará, therefore, the field in which our research is inserted is that of geographic education. The theoretical methodological and interpretation support is the "teaching method" so called by Libâneo (1994) and the "social representation" interpreted by Genylton Rocha in the teaching of geography. As for the main objective: to point out the importance of social representations that students have about the Amazon region for the construction of identity. As a result, I obtained some social representations of these students about the Amazon region, often marked by the stereotype of an Amazon exclusively as a forest, being sometimes absent from human presence. This type of study helps students to fill in gaps and demystify pre-conceived visions, making them reflect their knowledge about the region, increasing their teaching-learning process.
