Abstract

This experiential report describes an educational activity implemented in 2022 within Geography lessons for 1st first-grade primary school students. The activity employed the writing of letters to Santa Claus as an innovative, playful, and interdisciplinary approach to teaching Geography. Inspired by children's curiosity about Santa Claus's existence, the activity leveraged this imaginative context to introduce concepts related to the spatial organization of the world and its diverse characteristics. Utilizing digital tools such as Google Earth and Street View, students explored the fictional journey of their letters to the North Pole, analyzing the features of the places encountered along the route. This activity fostered the interpretation of cartographic representations through technological resources while introducing students to various countries, cultures, and their unique traits. From an interdisciplinary perspective, the activity incorporated the textual genre of the "letter," encouraging spontaneous writing and enhancing students' understanding of communication methods. The Christmas fantasy served as a motivating framework, engaging students in the use of technology to deepen their comprehension of geographic space and connect them to global issues in an accessible and engaging manner. Students were prompted to critically and creatively reflect on the world, exploring cultural and geographical diversity through a familiar and relatable medium. This pedagogical practice exemplifies how the integration of imagination, technology, and Geography can transform playful themes into profound learning experiences.
