The essential rethinking in the training of Geography teachers to serve students with special needs

Abstract

The article highlights the importance of training geography teachers to meet students' special needs, emphasizing the integration of technology in instruction and the promotion of inclusive practices. The research reveals the lack of preparation among teachers in dealing with student diversity, especially those with disabilities and disorders, pointing to the scarcity of inclusive projects and strategies in their training processes. Collaboration between teachers, family members, and health professionals is essential to promote inclusion and meaningful learning for all students. It is necessary to change the educational paradigm by proposing more reflective and collaborative training that provides resources and assistive technologies to assist in the inclusion process. Transdisciplinary articulation and the identification of inclusive pedagogical strategies are essential to guarantee more equitable and accessible geographic education. Therefore, it is urgent that educational institutions prioritize the inclusion of pedagogical practices aimed at meeting the needs of diverse students, aiming for a more inclusive and effective geographic education for all.
